Test Bores above the Church Hill Tunnel, Richmond, VA

Beneath this site at Jefferson Hill Park in Richmond Virginia, lies the ill-fated Church Hill Tunnel. The tunnel collapsed in 1926, entombing a train below this hill.

Efforts are underway to salvage the locomotive in the tunnel. One of the test bores to locate the engine is visible as the white pipe in the middle of the photo.
