Church Hill Tunnel Entrance, Richmond, VA

Site of the west portal of the ill-fated Church Hill Tunnel in Richmond, Virginia. The tunnel collapsed in 1926, entombing a train a few hundred feet from this entrance. Note the water spewing from the top of the tunnel plug.

Efforts are underway to salvage the locomotive in the tunnel.
